thinkorswim Forex Review

Forex Broker Review

Likes - Powerful platform functionality allows forex trading as well as stocks, options, and commodities trading from one platform.

Dislikes - No automated Forex Trading; dealing desk execution; no Metatrader platform.

Bottom Line - thinkorswim offers one of the most powerful trading platforms in the industry.  Combined with the fact they provide execution services for stocks, options, and commodities, this organization is an excellent place to have a trading account.  Their plethora of ideas, services, and instruments will help develop a trading style that accommodates any need.

thinkorswim is an online broker that has been providing brokerage services since 1999.  They are continuously on the brink of technological innovation and thus, have been named number one by Barron's in trading technology.  They've recently been bought out by TD Ameritrade, one of the largest retail stock brokerages in the world.

Our thinkorswim review provides trade platform screenshots, detailed commissions information, and online broker ratings.

Commission Notes

By default, thinkorswim accounts are set up to charge no commission and they are compensated through the bid ask spread.

Spreads - Thinkorswim offers two transaction environments.  The first is a traditional no commission set up with 1 pip of spread inserted into the currency pair.  The alternative option significantly lowers the spread but a commission is applied to each side of the transaction, this commission structure is outlined below.

Premier Accounts - The switch to commission trading is very easy within the thinkorswim platform.  Once the switch is made, you will see the spreads tighten and the commission rate appear next to the currency quote.  Thinkorswim charges $1.0 per 10,000 USD traded (each side of the transaction).  It should be noted that the traditional "no commission" environment is the cheaper alternative.

Micro Lot Trading - Thinkorswim supports micro lot trading in both transaction environments.

thinkorswim was reviewed by StockBrokers.com on 2011-06-01 with an overall rating of 5 Stars.
