It appears that Charles Schwab is suffering from some technical issues.
As of 2:20 PM EST, when logging into the website we received a message, “The system is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. For urgent trade-related matters, please call us at 800-435-4000.” We then tried logging in through desktop platform StreetSmart Edge and received a similar notice, “An error has been detected. Please contact customer service for assistance.” Screenshots below.
StockBrokers.com will continue to track this Charles Schwab outage and will update this post as soon as access has been restored for customers.
UPDATE 2:21 PM: We updated this post to remove a mention that MarketWatch had reported the outage originally this morning. The MarketWatch article was referring to a previous outage from 2015 and was not reflecting today’s technical issues.
UPDATE 2:33 PM: Charles Schwab tech appears to be on top of it as tweets are coming through. The outage must have taken place within the last hour or so.
UPDATE 2:35 PM: That was quick, nicely done Charles Schwab. Website access restored. StreetSmart Edge login still unsuccessful for the moment but we will continue to monitor.
UPDATE 4:09 PM: StreetSmart Edge access is now restored.
