AJ Bell Youinvest recently became the first DIY investment platform to complete a live share trade using FaceBook Messenger. This trade was made on May 25, 2016 when shares of Facebook were purchased live. The video showing the purchase is included here.
In April 2016, Facebook launched its Messenger Platform which allows firms to build automated customer service functions using “Chat bots,” which are computer programs that mimic conversation with people using artificial intelligence.
Facebook’s Messenger Platform is likely to be used by many more investment companies as they look to take advantage of the widespread usage of messenger apps.
Tim Huckle, digital strategy director at AJ Bell said, “At AJ Bell Youinvest we continue to explore ways of using new channels to interact with our customers and help them manage their investments. We have created a secure authorisation framework between the Facebook Messenger and AJ Bell Youinvest.”
While the video above shows this trade taking place from a desktop, the real value to investors will be to interact with the messenger bot through their smartphones.
When Facebook’s Messenger Platform was launched, many saw it as a way to do things like order fast food or even do online banking, but this innovative idea opens up the world of trading. StockBrokers.com will keep you updated as to what other investment companies do with this platform.
